Every day, companies must navigate a complex maze of rules on how to do business. The stakes are high because if the rules aren’t clear, one misstep can have serious consequences. It’s up to government agencies, like the Department of Justice, to use their enforcement powers fairly, and to provide the guidance necessary for companies to stay on the right side of the law. Previously, the DOJ has been criticized for being overly aggressive when it comes to corporate compliance. But in the last couple of years, the DOJ has made important reforms designed to promote both compliance and the rule of law.
